WILDERNESS MEDICINE

Medical emergencies and trauma can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time! When you’re off the grid, your ability to manage medical emergencies can mean the difference between life and death.

INTRODUCTION:

At SOS School of Survival, we believe that true wilderness readiness means more than knowing how to find food or build a shelter—it means being equipped to handle real-world medical emergencies when help isn’t coming anytime soon. Despite the best precautions, trauma and illness can happen to anyone, anywhere. That’s why Wilderness Medicine is a core pillar of our survival training.

Our courses teach you how to prevent, recognize, and treat a wide range of medical emergencies in remote environments. Whether you’re a weekend hiker, a backcountry guide, or a solo adventurer, you’ll build the skills and confidence to assess, stabilize, and care for injuries when professional help is out of reach.

What sets SOS apart is our enhanced curriculum: our Wilderness First Aid PLUS (WFA+) course is ideal for beginners, weekend warriors, and everyday adventurers—while our more advanced Wilderness First Responder PLUS (WFR+) course is built for outdoor professionals, guides, and expedition leaders. Both include advanced modules in risk management, pre-event planning, and practical bushcraft integration. You’ll gain real-world tools to think critically, adapt under pressure, and provide care with limited resources.

Through immersive, scenario-based training, you’ll practice managing everything from common injuries to severe trauma using proven assessment frameworks. You’ll also learn to prioritize care, improvise with what you have, and make sound decisions in high-stress environments.

And to support your training, we go beyond the textbook. Each student receives a detailed wilderness medicine manual, plus a curated survival-ready gear kit—including LMNT electrolytes, a trauma kit from North American Rescue, and a water purification kit from Cana Provisions. We make sure you leave not just trained, but truly equipped.
