This Disclaimer governs your use of sos-schoolofsurvival.com (the “Site”) and any information, instruction, or materials provided by SOS School of Survival (“SOS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). It forms part of our Terms and Conditions.

Read it carefully. It describes real risks.

Educational Purpose Only

All content on the Site — course descriptions, articles, blog posts, videos, downloadable materials, and instructional content — is provided for general educational and informational purposes only.

It is not a substitute for hands-on, supervised, in-person training. Reading about a survival, medical, navigation, or vehicle recovery technique is not the same as being able to perform it competently under stress, in bad weather, in the dark, or while injured. Attempting techniques described on the Site without proper training, equipment, and supervision may result in serious injury or death.

Assumption of Risk

Wilderness survival training, wilderness medicine training, off-road vehicle operation, backcountry navigation, and related activities are inherently dangerous.

Risks include, without limitation: serious bodily injury, permanent disability, and death; falls and falling objects; cuts, burns, fractures, and crush injuries; hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration, and altitude illness; drowning; animal and insect encounters; contact with toxic plants; vehicle rollover, collision, and mechanical failure; use of edged tools, fire, ropes, and heavy equipment; adverse and rapidly changing weather; difficult and unstable terrain; the acts or omissions of other participants; and delayed access to definitive medical care because of remote location, terrain, weather, or communication limitations.

These risks cannot be eliminated. They are inherent to the activities and are part of what makes the training meaningful. By participating, you knowingly and voluntarily accept them.

Not Medical Advice

Our wilderness medicine courses teach emergency care in austere and remote settings. Nothing taught in those courses, and nothing on the Site, is medical advice or a substitute for evaluation and treatment by a licensed medical professional.

Completing a course does not license you to practice medicine, does not make you a medical professional, and does not authorize you to act beyond your actual scope of practice, training, and applicable law. You are responsible for knowing and operating within the legal scope of practice that applies to you in your jurisdiction.

If you have a medical emergency, call emergency services. If you have a medical question, consult a qualified provider.

Certification

Where a course results in a certification, that certification reflects successful completion of the stated curriculum on the date issued. It is not a guarantee of competence, and it does not certify that you will perform correctly in any real emergency.

Certification requirements, recognition, and reciprocity vary by issuing body, employer, and jurisdiction. Confirm before you register that a certification will meet your specific requirement. We make no representation that any certification will be accepted by any particular employer, agency, or organization.

Your Responsibility for Your Own Safety

You are responsible for your own decisions, before and during training and afterward in the field.

You are responsible for honestly assessing your physical condition and fitness for the activity, for disclosing medical conditions and limitations that could affect your safety or the safety of others, for bringing appropriate gear and clothing, for following instructor direction, and for speaking up when something is beyond your ability.

Instructors are there to teach and to manage risk. They cannot eliminate it, and they cannot make your decisions for you once you are on your own.

No Guarantee of Outcome

We make no promise that training will keep you safe in any actual emergency. Real-world outcomes depend on circumstances outside anyone’s control, including terrain, weather, your physical and mental state at the time, the severity of the situation, available equipment, and the availability of help.

Any testimonial, review, or account of a past course reflects one individual’s experience and is not a representation of what you will experience or achieve.

Accuracy of Information

We work to keep Site content accurate and current, but techniques, protocols, standards, regulations, course details, schedules, and prices change. We make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, or currency of any content on the Site, and we are not liable for errors, omissions, or outdated information.

External Links and Third-Party Content

The Site links to third-party websites, partner organizations, and outside resources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, products, services, or practices. A link is not an endorsement.

Land Use, Permits, and Legal Compliance

Training takes place on public and private lands under applicable permits and access agreements. Nothing taught in a course authorizes you to enter, camp on, build fires on, harvest from, or operate vehicles on any land without proper permission and required permits.

Many techniques taught for genuine survival emergencies — including fire building, shelter construction, foraging, trapping, and water sourcing — are restricted or prohibited under normal circumstances. You are solely responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state, local, and tribal laws and land management regulations.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SOS School of Survival and its owners, officers, employees, instructors, contractors, and agents disclaim all liability for any loss, injury, damage, or death arising from your use of the Site, your reliance on any information provided, or your application of any technique or information learned from us.

Separate Waiver Required

Participation in any SOS course requires signing a separate waiver, release of liability, and assumption of risk agreement before training begins. That signed agreement, where it addresses the same subject matter, controls over this Disclaimer.
